Over our journey, we have observed that developing infrastructure bears carbon at every stage of the value chain. This may range from the clearance of site and quarrying of raw materials, through to their transportation, assembly as well installation at the end point. All these are processes that yield into embodied carbon, making the industry a pariah. And that not-withstanding the footprint occasioned by building services support provisions during the utilisation of the building as well as later at disposal also adds to the load. Notably, a lot of the adverse impact mitigation effort has been focused on function efficiency, that obtains at the end and yet the processes leading to the product are as disruptive as the outcome.
The body of work in this section aims to exhibit the scenarios as well as showcase our mod-est attempts to intervene in this area. To encourage carbon conscience off takers, we display a few small works where adaptive reuse of build stock and installation of eco-efficient building techniques for energy, bares quality output. This is aimed at encouraging optimum utilisation of resources and the proliferation of methods of delivering low carbon buildings.
